Whether or not Benoit Assou-Ekotto will leave this season is anyone's guess. He still has a couple of years left on his contract, but he suffered from a serious downturn in form this past season and isn't going to fetch much on the transfer market if Tottenham Hotspur wait another year to sell him. We've had trouble thinking up possible destinations for Benny, but The Mail appears to have figured one out. They say Fenerbahce is going to bid £6m for Assou-Ekotto.
Fener finished second in the Turkish Super Lig and would like to stock up on talent for a Champions League run. Their left back situation isn't terrible, but they could do with an upgrade. Reto Ziegler and Hasam Ali Kaldrim rotated in that spot this season, with Caner Erkin filling in occasionally as well. None of those players are terrible, but none are as good of a left back as Benny.
Selling Benny makes sense if Spurs have a good young replacement lined up while Fener has some money, is a big club and needs a left back. Obviously there's nothing concrete here yet, but I'd rate this rumor as 'plausible'.
