We started our deadline day madness profiles series with a level-headed and realistic look at Tom Huddlestone. Our second post goes into la-la land and looks at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
This post is part of a deadline morning series on potential Tottenham transfers. You can find all of the posts in the series right here, as well as the initial post explaining this series right here.
Following a rough first season at Saint-Etienne, Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang burst onto the scene last season and established himself as one of the hottest properties in Ligue 1. He caught the eye of football nerds early last year, then made even more of a name for himself with his performances in the Africa Cup of Nations and the Olympics.
Aubameyang has carried that form into this season, scoring nine goals in 21 Ligue 1 matches for a team that depends on him to do quite a bit of creating his own scoring opportunities. Between his scoring record, his balanced skillset and his age, there's a decent crowd of folks 'round these parts that he's even more "the" striker Tottenham need than Leandro Damiao is.
Quick bio: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a Gabonese striker who joined Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne from Milan in 2010. Milan sent him on multiple loans to France as a youngster.
Likelihood he's transfered today: Minimal
Potential suitors: Literally the entire world
Price if he's sold: At least £10m; less than £20m
Are Spurs the front-runners?: It's possible, now that Chelsea have snapped up Demba Ba and Juventus have added Fernando Llorente on a free, as well as Nicolas Anelka on loan. His old club, Milan, are adding Mario Balotelli. PSG don't need him. We make as much sense as anyone else.
The verdict - Could he be a Spurs player on February 1?: Highly unlikely, but we can dream. I'd rather have him than Bafetimbi Gomis. I think he'd be less expensive than Leandro Damiao. His combination of size, pace, finishing ability and hold-up play fits the mold of what Tottenham need. We haven't been linked to him lately, but here's to hoping.
CFC up all night munchies scoreboard: One banana, one piece of string cheese, one bag of pretzels.
