Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper are impressing with Alex Ferguson and Andre Villas-Boas reportedly in the stands at Celtic Park.
At the time of this article's posting, it's halftime at Celtic Park, where Celtic lead Dundee United 2-0 in SPL play. According to Setanta, Andre Villas-Boas is in attendance at the game, along with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Hooper and Wanyama both on the score sheet for Celtic as AVB and SAF look on. #Celtic— Setanta Sports (@SetantaSports) January 22, 2013
An important not on Alex Ferguson's presence, from prolific Spurs tweeter Sibs.
SAF is in Glasgow for the funeral of Sean Fallon tomorrow... obviously he may or may not be scouting too— Sibs (@SibsTHFC) January 22, 2013
Obviously, both men could have business in Glasgow other than scouting Celtic players, and they could just be at the game for fun. But it seems very likely that Villas-Boas is there more for work-related reasons than any personal reasons, while Ferguson is certainly there for personal reasons first.
The two men currently on the scoresheet for Celtic are Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper, who, coincidentally, are almost certainly the top two players that Tottenham would be interested in. This is assuming that Andre Villas-Boas is actually at the game, and he's actually there to scout players.
Metro reported AVB's interest in Hooper earlier, though regular readers of this site will be very familiar with their tactics. They get hot tips that may or may not be legitimate, throw a lot of shit at the wall, and see what sticks. It causes them to have a rumor post up on something legitimate more often than their competition. It also causes them to be very, very wrong and completely off-base more often than their competition.
Hooper and Wanyama look like excellent players and performed very well in the Champions League this year, but six games isn't much of a sample size, and the SPL doesn't tell us anything about how good these players are. Guys often struggle mightily in the Championship (and MLS, for that matter) after dominating in Scotland.
Thoughts? Do you believe that AVB's gone to Glasgow to scout in person? Would you be interested in Wanyama or Hooper?
