It would seem we are yet again in another painful, heart-breaking transfer window.

Cupid has fired his arrows, and many direct hits have landed on Spurs fans again.

The usual suspects of Leandro Damiao, Loic Remy, Alvaro Negredo, Joao Moutinho have all reared their not so ugly heads (this wouldn't have worked if we were linked to Luke Chadwick) once more whether there be any truth in the links or otherwise.

Besides, as the great Greek dramatist Aeschylus once said, "In war, truth is the first casualty". And to our esteemed chairman, Daniel Levy, the transfer market is very much like war. (Roosevelts can add in a Levy-War analogy here if he so pleases).

Trouble is, Spurs are and have been for the past 2-3 seasons in the transition between also-rans to top 4 mainstays. With the difference being the qualification into the heralded Champions League and the sweet monies that she ladens upon her contestants.

Here-in lies the problem that so tortures Spurs and their long-suffering followers:

Do you spend big to get into the Champs League?

On one hand it may all but guarantee safe progression and establishment as a continual Champions League club, and stabilise the club in the upper echelons of football royalty.

Or . . . Liverpool.

Granted, Spurs will never bankroll to the like of Manchester City, Chelsea or even Manchester United, but there is money there to be spent.

January is perhaps the most important part of the season for many clubs. Stick or twist tends to be the theme. And quite often Spurs have seemingly chosen to stick with what they have got in January and have always seemed to fall by the wayside in the finishing straights because of this.

Now, Spurs are by no means paupers when it comes to a talented roster of players. But it is blatantly obvious that Spurs miss one or two marquee players that will contest with the likes of the Van Persie's, Aguero's, Mata's that the top teams hold in their hands. Spurs need that proverbial 'Ace in the hole' (que Mick McCarthy gif) and it MUST come in January if they are to truly take a deserved Champions League spot this coming season.

Although waiting until the summer may prove more economically viable in the market, it also presents yet another risk if yet again Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League.

So, is the risk worth it? Is there a risk at all? Surely it will happen this time.
