The “Beer and Loathing” piece is really an apology to the boys I missed July 28th at Ryleigh’s. I could literally explain why I didn’t make it (lame), or explain--in story form--how those 36 hours pre-match felt (lame, but possibly entertaining?). And, well, I was bored on Friday night so I started writing. It’s not striker analysis, or maybe even that much about football, but there it is. I just wanted to share with many of you what that weekend felt like for me and my traveling band. For those of you not familiar with Baltimore, the logistics of that weekend, or the author I am paying homage to: sorry.
Also, by reading pieces by The Sleeper’s Sleep we are becoming quite an erudite group. I wish to counteract his good work.
And, yes, I know that the author isn’t supposed to preface the work. I don’t care; I’m not really an author.
The second part of why I wrote this so ridiculously is because I feel that there is more angst around here than usual, and we need an infusion of stupidity. Yesterday, members of the Commentariat were arguing for quite some time about Salomon Rondon. No really. Salomon Rondon. I feel like the rags are linking us to all the strikers just so we get upset when they sign for the likes of Rubin Kazan. They loved Harry you know, and now are punishing us with their ragged essence.
I get that we need a striker, but historically Spurs have not been some bastion of timely transfer business so let us ride it out and not get overly frustrated. Speaking of frustration, theroosevelts beat me to it this morning, but we are letting old annoyances become new again. Seriously, didn’t we all forget about Leandro for a good, long time? What are we doing to ourselves letting this guy back in our lives? Needlessly punishing ourselves, that’s what. The only thing I have to say about this now three weeks too tired Silly Season is that the early signings of Vertical and Siggy were gifts, not harbingers of a new “way” of doing transfers at Spurs. Maybe when the stadium is built and funds flow like a mountain stream after the first melt, maybe, we will be a truly proactive lot. Until then, rest assured, things will happen. Maybe not what we want to happen, but things will happen. Try to relax and enjoy the “savage” journey to deadline day.
