Jermain Defoe Inks New Tottenham Deal

Jermain I heard you got a new contract give me a hug LOL.

Jermain Defoe has been linked to a possible exit from Tottenham Hotspur for most of the summer, but he's not going anywhere. On Thursday afternoon, the club announced that Defoe had signed a new contract that will run through the end of the 2014-15 season.

Even though Defoe isn't a first XI player anymore, he's a very useful substitute and I'm happy that he's going to be sticking around. I still think that Spurs need to buy a true backup for Emmanuel Adebayor, because Defoe simply isn't that, but he is excellent coming off the bench when Spurs need to chase a game.

I don't think that this signing has any bearing on whether or not Daniel Levy goes out and buys a striker over the next two days. Defoe is listed on the squad as a striker, but he doesn't play the same role as Adebayor or any of our rumored targets, and his contract or lack thereof isn't relevant to other strikers.
