Minor breaking news out of Spurs Lodge, as goalkeeper David Button has been sold to Championship side Charlton Athletic. Terms were not disclosed. Button, 23, impressed on Championship loans to Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers last season. A Tottenham academy product, Button appeared in one League Cup game for Spurs in 2009.

Button's departure helps to clear the logjam at keeper a bit, and perhaps helped raise a couple of pounds for Tottenham. Look for 19-year old Jordan Archer to become the nominal "Goalkeeper of the Future" title now. Archer traveled with the Tottenham Hotspur first team on this summer's United States tour, has been called up to the Scotland U-21s, and looks to be the keeper that will lead Spurs youth teams through the U-21 Premier League.

However, Button's departure marks another failure of the Tottenham Hotspur academy to produce a first-team quality player. No Tottenham academy product has started at goalkeeper for Spurs in the league since Ian Walker left the club in 2001. Hopefully the next crop of Academy goalkeepers will have the talent to break through.
