Interesting report from the UK Press Association, who claim that Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy has set a £40 million price tag on Croatian midfielder Luka Modric. This comes in the face of rumours linking Modric to Real Madrid in a deal worth closer to £30 million. This reported increased price tag would show no wavering from Levy after last summer's transfer saga with Modric.

Modric has been linked to a transfer all summer, as the midfielder seeks for Champions League football (and perhaps higher wages) at a new club. The arrival of new manager Andre Villas-Boas has not seemed to sway Modric's feelings on a potential move. Villas-Boas has commented on this potential move.

"There has been continuous interest from three different clubs in Luka," says Villas-Boas."But it is important for Tottenham to hold on to [Modric's] rights. His situation will continue as it is until the price is right. It's important to understand his feelings. We have been speaking and I understand his point and he understands the club's point."

Tottenham Hotspur flies to the USA this weekend as they start their pre-season tour, and Modric reportedly does not want to go on the trip. However, Levy's high demands and patience make it seem this transfer saga may very well be dragged out through the summer.
