I for one, am intrigued to see who ends up being our first choice central defense pairing. I would hope that AVB is smart/aware enough to see that Kaboul should be the first on his list just based on his performances last year. After that it's an all-out fight between Johnny Vertical and Dawson for the other starting spot.

While Jan might fit AVB's style better, Dawson has the proven Premier League experience so I'm intrigued as to who AVB will go with. I won't be particularly disappointed with either one, though I would imagine Jan has the advantage simply because we just bought him and he's 'new'. If it were up to me, I'd start the season with Daws, but make sure I work Vertonghen in just to get him minutes in the league to get him a feel for the pace and physicality of the league. You can't stress enough how much of an adjustment it will be coming from the dutch league. I doubt Jan has any idea what it's like to be 'Stoked'....he could be in for a rude awakening. If Vertonghen is as good as he is supposed to be, he will earn a starting spot before the season is up after being gradually worked in.
