Tottenham Hotspur announced today that the first-team will travel to Valencia this pre-season for a friendly to be played in the legendary Estadio Mestalla. The friendly will take place on Thursday August 9, kick-off 9 p.m. (presumably GMT).
Valencia is coming off their third-straight third-place finish in La Liga, placing them again into the group stages of the Champions League. Los Che are led by an array of attacking stars, including Roberto Soldado, Ever Banega, Jonas, and Aduriz. It will also be a proving ground for new Valencia manager Mauricio Pellegrino, taking over for the departed Unai Emery (who left for the richer pastures of Spartak Moscow),
The friendly should provide a stern test for Spurs only nine days ahead of the start for the Premier League season. The first-team also might be a bit short-handed, as the Tottenham contingent in the Olympic football tournament may be unlikely to feature. This group may include Sandro, Gareth Bale, Kyle Walker, Jake Livermore, Steven Caulker, Danny Rose, and Giovani dos Santos.
