Gareth Bale Snags Premier League Player Of The Month Honors

Bale's award is even better than a boot

Your Premier League Player of the Month for January is Tottenham's Gareth Bale (applause). Wait, I'm sorry. Correction for the corporate sellout in me. Your Barclays Player of the Month is Bale (applause, but a bit less than the first time). This is the second time that Bale has won Player of the Month, first capturing the award in April 2010.

"It's always nice for it to be recognized when you've been playing well," said Gareth. "The team has been playing well and I'm just happy to be playing my part in that."

January was one of Bale's better months, highlighted by his fantastic goal against Manchester City. He also added a couple goals against Wigan and gave West Brom fits at the start of the month. This is certainly an award well deserved

Bale will undoubtedly bring his trophy home to his mum and she will make him some delicious soup as a reward, which is very different than what a couple Spurs did with their ____ of the Month awards back in November. Scott Parker won Player of the Month honors then and used it to help recruit more people to time travel back to 1943 and join the Royal Air Force, while Harry Redknapp sold his Manager of the Month trophy to buy himself bacon sandwiches in court.

Man. Crush.

So in the last two calendar years, Bale has been awarded 2 Premiere League Player of the Month awards, a PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, the 2010-11 PFA Premiere League Team of the Year and 2011 UEFA Team of the Year.

No other player in the EPL even comes close to his collections of accolades in the same window (January 2010 through January 2012), and by my estimates, only three players outside of Spain compare: Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Diego Milito (though the latter is mostly for his ridiculous 2009-2010 season). That’s pretty impressive company.

And then take into account the youngest of them, Wesley Sneijder, is still 5 years Bale’s senior, it really makes you wonder just how good Bale is going to get.

My screen name is dependent on it.

…..I’m the jealous type. He must stay.

I’d rather not think about that one.

He's actually earned this one

I really had my reservations about him taking the PFA award last season, thought it was mostly of the strength of THOSE two matches and that he hadn’t done much to recommend himself for the following few months.

But holy GOD he has been so good this season. Crosses from out wide, goals from up the centre- he looks like he can do anything as good or better than almost anyone else right now.

He is so vital to this team's success

Maybe even more than Modric. I really really hope he doesn’t go anywhere for a while.

B.A.L.E

I get frustrated occassionally when he comes I.field or on the right, some on this site have expressed the same. But when thinking back to last year when he hugged the left more, I was much more frustrated with him constantly putting in good/great balls and them being wasted. So I’ll live with him occasionally out of position as he is possibly our best finisher and needs to be free to run around if we want him to learn messi’like positioning/decision making. With a touch of run fast and shoot of ronaldo…scarier doing this from central or right angles.

He addressed this a while back in an interview.

Honestly, I think Bale drifting inside into more of a trequartista is the evolution of his footballing ability. He was a pretty good left back. He developed into a very good left midfielder. But as his game evolves his way to improve is to start drifting inside.

Honestly, as good as he is on the flank, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn into an ACM within the next couple of years.

Is that actually a natural progression? Seems completely opposite.

I don't see him being out of position at all

Why? Because he communicates with his teammates and the other winger works his way over as well. It creates all sorts of matchup problems, and shows how intelligent he handles the transitions. We don’t overload the right when Bale drifts that way; it always balances out because of the communication on the field.

My thoughts are like Brian Cushing on the field: Everywhere.

help bae

The out of position I’m thinking of is more when he IS on the left but leaks inside, then turnover and bae has no help. Guess is as in part due to vdv not assisting on d or lack of sandro. But seems luka is more often forced to cover and seems bale isn’t replacing his spot in central/defense middle.

Well, van Persie scored in 2'......... dohhhhhh

But yea, congrats to Bale. He deserves this. Daniel Levy will have to continue to be the vampire boss to keep a firm grip on this lad.
