Tottenham Hotspur Injury News: Key Players Could Miss North London Derby

No Disco Benny?

Tottenham Hotspur aren't really good at keeping people informed about the fitness of their players, as we have discussed ad nauseam at this site. This is not the NFL where everyone is expected to provide meticulous injury info, which is funny, because gambling is more popular in the UK than it is in the USA. In any event, Spurs had a team news article on Friday. It did not mention any of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Emmanuel Adebayor or Luka Modric.

None of these players were in the 18-man squad against Stevenage. We assumed that, because they were not mentioned in Tottenham's team news report, they were simply being rested. Turns out, none of them were fit to play.

Luka Modric has the flu. He's not even being called likely to play in the derby yet. Emmanuel Adebayor injured his knee in training and is not expected to play against Arsenal. Benoit Assou-Ekotto had a minor groin operation last Monday and is also not expected to play against Arsenal.

Said Harry:

"Benoit had a small operation at the start of the week. Adebayor did his knee on Friday morning, he twisted it. We thought he might have opened his ligament up, but it's not too bad and then Luka had an unbelievable temperature. He was really ill."

Thanks for the heads up, Harry.

This is not good.

Being without Luka and BAE would be a very bad for Spurs. I think we could manage without Adebayor, it’s obviously not ideal, but his absence is less troubling than the other two.

I've adopted the policy of not being upset over any injuries unless I see the player leave the field in an air cast.

I’ve lost count of the number of times a guy is not expected to play and, lo and behold, there he is in the starting eleven an hour before kickoff.

Luka should

be better in a week, I would imagine. I am EXTREMELY worried about BAE missing…Danny Rose is NOT good enough defensively. Any one of Alex Oxlade-Chamberland, Gervihno or Walcott would tear him to shreds. We need Benny to play in this game.

Saha can cover adequately for Adebayor’s role, though I would imagine Ade would be UP for this game so I would like to have him play.

not. good.

as a fan of hockey, i am used to the weird and vague injury reports, where everything as stated as being a “upper” or “lower” body “injury” even if the player is out with flu.

a lot of times the teams keep it out of the news so that opposing teams cannot use the info against them.

the absence of these 3 players for the arsenal match troubles me. greatly.

WTF is up with Luka?

Chelsea-itis aside, this is like the third illness he’s had this year!

Flu shmu

Take two night nurse and sweat that ish out. That’s a two-day max, not a Monday to Sunday. Worst flu I’ve ever had was 2009 when I’m fairly sure I got that swine flu that everyone was crazy about. That was four days with antibiotics.

Seriously, if he’s out for Sunday with this it will take me some time to forgive him.

Dude. I had the flu last winter.

It knocked me on my ass for a week. I totally understand that ish.

if you had the flu, then antibiotics wouldn’t make a lick of difference. The flu is caused by a virus, antibiotics work on bacteria.

Also, if you had the flu (the actual flu, not a bad cold), then you’d be out for more than four days. So will Luka if he has actual flu.
