Stevenage vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 2012 FA Cup: Preview, Another FA Cup Bore, But This Time With Hatred
There is still a trophy for Tottenham Hotspur to win. The FA Cup is down to the round of 16 and Spurs have been lucky to this point in avoiding big clubs, or any Premier League club. It's a great recipe for winning trophies, but not exactly exactly a great recipe for making an entertaining 90 minutes and this round of 16 clash is no exception with Tottenham taking on Stevenage, but this one isn't a complete bore! No, because if you watch MLS, there is a connection to Stevenage and a fantastic reason to hate the Boro.
Over the last few years, there has been no MLS team as horrible as the Colorado Rapids. They are the Stoke of MLS, only they have no fans, they add stupid managerial decisions to the mix and because of the playoff system, they managed to get lucky and win a MLS Cup so we had to pretend they weren't the worst. There are precisely zero good things to say about the Rapids, except for one. Gary Smith is no longer their manager! And guess where Smith is managing now? Yup, Stevenage. They must go down and they must go down hard.
Now that we have established why Stevenage must die, let's see what we know about the club. ___________. The end.
Meanwhile, Spurs will probably take this opportunity to rest a few first teamers. Jake Livermore stepping in for either Luka Modric or Scot Parker seems likely and Ryan Nelsen should get a look in the center of defense. Danny Rose could also get a look and Kyle Walker could get a rest at right back for...right, there is no other right back.
Younes Kaboul is an injury doubt, but if he can play it wouldn't be a bad move to get him 20 minutes off the bench. With a trip to the Emirates looming, having Kaboul available and with a bit of a run out to get sharp again would be nice. That is assuming he can play, which Rafael van der Vaart cannot do as he has been ruled out the match.
All in all, this should be a Spurs romp. Even playing away, Tottenham have no excuse for letting Stevenage hang around and threaten them. What they really need to be looking out for are high tackles, flying elbows and axes flying onto the pitch. You know, all the regular things from a Gary Smith team.

The Rapids have at least one fan.
Albeit a very casual, almost non-fan fan. And mostly only because of proximity. I hope that’s enough excuses for it to be ok.
I was somewhat looking forward to this until now
I hadn’t made the connection that it was the same Gary Smith. I had hoped to never watch his bullshit football again. I don’t think I ever succeeded in watching an entire Rapids game.
Lets make the Newcastle game look like a nailbiter. And Sandro please don’t hesitate to use some of this:
Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom - D. Blanchflower

Was he manager of the Rapids
When one of his players went on a deadly tackle that broke a leg? I saw that live (on TV), and was pretty disgusted that it even happened. If so, then I hope we beat the snot out of them.
My thoughts are like Brian Cushing on the field: Everywhere.
Really wish we still had Charlie so that Walker could get a day off
Khumalo at right back?
Suns & Spurs (not San Antonio) fan.
Wait
You’re not a Hearts fan still bitter at Kevin, are you?

Apparently
Stevenage fans can’t understand that Ryan hates Gary Smith, not their club. He admits to knowing nothing about their club and has watched more Gary Smith-managed game than any Stevenage fan on earth.

See, this is what the Stevenage fans don't get.

As a devout Tottenham and Rapids fan
I unfortunately agree with many of the things you said. They certainly aren’t among the worst teams in the MLS, but they certainly aren’t great (and I’ll admit the MLS Cup was a fluke). Under Gary Smith they played a scrappy, penalty heavy, and overall ugly, defensive minded brand of football. My prediction is that this game will not be at all fun to watch and Spurs will come away with an unmemorable win.
