Poll Time! What Do You Want To See In The North London Derby?

LONDON, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 11: Manager Harry Redknapp of Spurs hugs Louis Saha of Spurs during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United at White Hart Lane on February 11, 2012 in London, England. (Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)

I would like to say that I am not looking past Stevanage and this weekend's FA Cup match, but that would be a lie. I know that a road match against literally anyone in the FA Cup should be taken seriously, and that with our rich history in the FA Cup, we should be dedicating our resources to it and we should be emotionally invested and taking this game very seriously. You know the drill. However, I am very much looking past Stevenage to the North London Derby. Sorry, I guess I'm just a silly American that doesn't understand the cup's history.

Against Newcastle, as everyone here knows, Tottenham played with their old 4-4-2. Because Rafael Van der Vaart is injured, pushing Luka Modric up the pitch is sacrilege and starting Giovani dos Santos is only done for the lulz, Louis Saha partnered Emmanuel Adebayor up top. It was awesome. They combined for three of Spurs' five goals and looked like they had spent a decade playing together.

I'm going to ask now, and I'll ask a couple more times before the game: What do you want to see in the NLD, in terms of how we set up our two most forward central players. Or, do we have one center forward? I feel like, as the game draws nearer and we discuss this, our opinions might change. For the purposes of this exercise, everyone is 100 percent fit.

Vote away and discuss in the comments.

But seriously.

If it was anyone else, I would not mind sticking with the same formation from last week. But VDV has shown that he absolutely loves scoring against the scum. He’s gotta play. Do you think we could keep Saha-Ade and he could just sub in like for like for Niko?

by Lennon's Eyebrow on Feb 14, 2012 2:03 PM GMT reply actions

It would also

be harsh to drop Niko, just as it would be harsh to drop Saha. Don’t forget ’arry loves him some Aaron Lennon too.

by LanceAnderson on Feb 14, 2012 2:15 PM GMT up reply actions

Disagree. It’s not really harsh to drop someone if a better player is available.

RAFA EATS GOONERS ALIVE, throw him in if fit.

im gonna stick with Ade-Saha

To be honest i think Rafa is too inconsistent of recent times, hes been having games where he may aswell not exist

by Rhys Goldhawk on Feb 14, 2012 2:19 PM GMT reply actions

We won the reverse fixture,

but if you remember, our midfield didn’t exactly boss the game the way we would have liked. The extra man Arsenal had in the middle really gave us problems. For that reason, I’m going for the FRAAB 4-3-3 with Sandro Modric Parker in the middle and Bale & Rafa behind Adebayor.

Lineup

Friedel
Walker – Dawson – King – EK
Niko – Parker – Luka – Bale
VDV
Ade

Sub at ’60 – Saha for VDV and shift to a 4-4-2

by Craftycraftsmen on Feb 14, 2012 2:31 PM GMT reply actions

VDV has always shown up for these games

I think he starts with Saha as the impact sub to come on at a later point. We just need to have a solid midfield for this match in order to keep control and have the advantage.

I'd say Walker is white lightning but whenever I watch matches its like he has a tint or something

I’m guessing he has some mixed descent or maybe its just my stream

You must have dumb color settings or something. He’s definitely mixed race. Closer to black than white tbh.

A back three including two full backs?

I know Arsenal aren’t at the peak of their powers any more, but that’s just begging for trouble.

by rwtwm on Feb 15, 2012 11:21 AM GMT up reply actions

It should be either the FRAAB or a 4-4-1-1

We know Wenger is going to play his 4-3-3/4-5-1. Playing a true 4-4-2 with Saha/Ade is appealing from an attacking perspective, but we need to avoid being outnumbered in the center of midfield, especially at the Emirates.

I would line up
Friedel
Walker Kaboul King BAE
Sandro Parker
VDV Modric Bale
Ade

Tell Sandro and Parker to press the shit out of them in midfield. Break up play as much as possible while letting the front four run around a bit. I don’t want to see them dominating possession and I think setting up this way would prevent that from happening.
If we want to take a more attacking approach we could go with the 4-4-1-1 with Lennon and Bale on the wings and VDV dropping deep to help out in midfield.

I would personally prefer the first approach, and then potentially bring on Lennon and Saha later on, telling Lennon and Bale to run at their fullbacks at any opportunity.

I don't see any reason not to start Rafa

He is class and loves these games, after all. If it’s not working for any reason you can always sub him out and go for the Ade-Saha magic in the second half. Also, I don’t want Rafa to pout.

Another option

would be a 4-5-1 formation from the start. That depends on Sandro beeing fit. It that’s the case – then it’s Bale, Modric, Parker and Lennon – with Sandro as an anchor. Denying through-passes to van Persie will take the edge of the Woolwich goons. Strap the bag – provoke turn-overs – pacey flanks will feed Adebayour. Attacking subs will be VdV, Defoe and Saha. Doesn’t sound to bad?

4-4-1-1... sort of

brad
walker,dawson,king,BAE
modric, parker, sandro, bale
VDV
Ade
is how I would set up and play defense and as the game went on have bale push up and play more of a 4-3-2-1
saha and niko can come in of the bench depending on how the second half goes

Pushing Luka out right?

That effectively negates the area where Luka has the most impact as a player. No, can’t go for that. Luka HAS to stay central so he can pull all the strings in the midfield.

If it ain't broke, but...

Lennon in for Kranks. Would be harsh on the Croat, but left back is a weakness for Arsenal we need to look to exploit.

4-5-1...

I love to see 3-5-2 though. I know it’s bold, and unless everyone is full fit or Benny gets lost on the tube it just won’t happen. However, it works on FIFA!!
