"For us, it's important to break out from the pack and join the top two" - AVB yesterday.
Remember this time last year, when Spurs had actually broken out and were mixing it with the Manchester clubs, Harry was still stubbornly refusing to talk about premiership aspirations - keeping a lid on expectations and continually reaffirming that our goal was Champions League and if we happened to fluke anything above that, it would be a bonus.
Whatever happened to 'To Dare is to do'? Harry? Harry only had eyes for fourth place and goddammit he achieved it. Shame about the Champions League spot.
AVB on the other hand simply reeks of ambition. You get the sense that he only sees fourth spot as being one step closer to the third spot, which is one step closer to second spot, and from there it's just a hop away from winning the title. Which would set us up nicely to take a Champions League tilt, before we eventually built an intergalactic cruiser and take-off looking to establish universal dominance.
I dig that. And it's why I've always thought AVB would be the right fit for Spurs. "To Dare is to do" demands ambition. Like AVB's never-ending pursuit for just the right amount of facial bristle. Or just the fact that he can manage to slaughter the English language yet make you question whether his phrasing just might be the way that word should actually be used after all. Immense.
I'm sure that ambition must be infectious. I'm sure the players are starting to believe that whatever short-comings the current squad might have, that every problem can be solved, if you just think about it really, really hard.
I know I'm feeling it. Voracity for success. I'm trying to work out what the deal is with all these blogs about us being better than Arsenal. Like duh. I'm too busy looking ahead to Man City's fixture list to work out what round we're likely to overtake those pretenders and then I'm heading out to the shed to do some tinkering on that intergalactic cruiser.
I don't know about you guys but I reckon we target Arkintoofle Minor - they need some AVB too - before we turn on our sights to the Northwest Ripple. Bring it.
