Bryan Ashlock is going to grow an embarrassing moustache again.
So, if you've been reading this blog long enough you know doubt remember that last year I attempted to grow a moustache for charity. That attempt not only spawned a meme that has resulted in new and glorious ways for all of you to make fun of me, but it also helped me raise more than $100 for prostate and testicular cancer awareness. Because of my relative success last year I decided to again attempt to grow a moustache for charity (and your amusement, of course).
For those of you that are unfamiliar with "Movember" here's a brief overview. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo's (which is, allegedly an Australian slang term for mustache) these men raise vital awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. Last year 854,000 people participate in the the fundraiser and managed to raise more than $126 million dollars for the cause.
To highlight the importance of what I am doing, take a look at these statistics:
- 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- This year 242,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed.
- This year 8,290 men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Men’s health is a cause I am passionate about (because I am a man), but in order to make a difference I need your help. My commitment is to attempt to grow a moustache for the month of November and by changing my appearance, raise vital awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. This time, however, I probably won't be posting a picture of my attempt.
I am asking you to help support my feeble attempt to grow facial hair by making a donation. The size of the donation isn’t important, every little bit helps Movember continue its funding of world-class programs. If you too are really passionate about men's health (and not wanting to be seen by your family and friends) then you can join my team and do some fundraising on your own.
