Tottenham Hotspur Looking At Bargain Buy Of Newcastle Star

Harry Redknapp likes to say things and this time around he's saying things about Newcastle star Demba Ba and why do managers talk about players? Because they are bored, having a laugh or want to sign a player. This being 'Arry, it could be any of the three, but the third one seems somewhat plausible and this being transfer season, we like mildly plausible so let's get things rolling for Demba Ba to Tottenham Hotspur.

When asked about Ba's rumored £10 million release, Redknapp said, "I think you will find it is a lot less than that." Reporters pushed on as they tried to figure out what Ba's release clause is and asked if it was £7 million, to which good ol' 'Arry replied, "Even less than that."

Of course, Redknapp doesn't even handle the transfers with Spurs, but let's play the "'Arry knows what he's talking about" game and work under the assumption that Harry would only know this because Spurs have inquired about Ba because they are interested in signing him. This might actually make a little bit of sense.

Ba is the darling of the season after signing with Newcastle on a free transfer and scoring 15 goals in 19 matches, which at last check is very good. Normally, talk about signing the soaring Ba away from a top half of the table team would be ludicrous, but if Harry is telling the truth and there is a release clause, Newcastle won't have a choice and Alan Pardew will have to find a lovely bathroom stall to cry in at Corporate Name Stadium at St. James' Park.

As fantastic as Emmanuel Adebayor has been, his loan is up after the year and his wages make it unlikely that he returns to White Hart Lane next year. That means Spurs need another striker and a strong, 6'2'', 26-year-old who is leading the Premier League in goals seems like a pretty good fit. One who has a cheap release clause to boot, well, even Daniel Levy can get behind that one.
