Cartilage Free Captain's Transfer Deadline Blowout: A Schedule And Disclaimer

As everyone knows, there are two big things happening tomorrow in Spursland. One, we play a game. An actual, competitive Premier League fixture that we really need three points out of. That is going to be very important. Two, it's transfer deadline day. Tottenham Hotspur are not expected to sign any senior players, but no one expected January 31 to go down like it did last season. We heard grumbles, but the madness came out of the blue.

We generally keep it to one transfer rumor post per day, at maximum around here. Sometimes we do two. They're usually posted in a joking manner and with proper context. We will continue to operate in this fashion 363 (or in 2012, 364) days per year. On the two deadline days, we go nuts.

Those of you who have been around for a while know the drill. For those of you who don't: We are going to post a lot tomorrow. Half of what we post will be rubbish. It's going to be really, really, really fun, and you should take ABSOLUTELY NOTHING seriously until a club makes an official announcement.

Starting early in the morning, we will have a Cover It Live blog for everyone to chat in. We'll discuss Spurs rumors and the stuff that's going on with other clubs. This chat will be stickied to the top of the page so you don't lose it among all of the madness. That chat will close when the match thread for the game against Wigan goes up. After the match report for that game is posted, a brand new night CIL will go up to the top of the page for the final three hours before the transfer window shuts.

If transfer rumors are not your thing ... I apologize. But we'll post the match thread on Twitter and Facebook for those who want to partake in the normal CFC goodness without all of the nonsense. But if you like nonsense, it is your lucky day! Enjoy the ride.

Also rumored that we're signing Rodallega after the game tomorrow

I’m not sure how I feel about this. He’s a good player, but not much of a goal scorer. But that could just be a product of playing in a shitty Wigan side. I have no opinions about anything anymore.

Also, I had this same hope last summer after we played Bilbao, but Llorente never turned up in a Spurs shirt.

by Lennon's Eyebrow on Jan 31, 2012 12:36 AM GMT reply actions

Yeah, not crazy about this.

Wigan’s produced some good players in the last few years (hello Antonio Valencia), but to echo Ashlock, one feels we should be aiming just a bit higher.

(Now watch him go to Fulham, set the world on fire, & we’ll be back here in summer, kicking ourselves.)

In other news, my crazy idea with no foundation or backing is that we sign Lucas Barrios tomorrow on loan with an option to buy. I like Barrios a lot, & also I don’t want this to happen. We gazumped you for Crouch, Cottagers; don’t think we aren’t coming for Barrios too!

by The Sleeper's Sleep on Jan 31, 2012 3:05 AM GMT up reply actions

Yeah, Barrios would definitely be a good pickup, and he probably wouldn't cost a lot.

Also, I’m not as convinced by the “we should be aiming higher” rhetoric about players like Rodallega or Hoillet. Hoillet could very well turn out to be just like Valencia when given a chance to shine at a real club.

by Lennon's Eyebrow on Jan 31, 2012 3:13 AM GMT up reply actions

In my opinion aiming higher applies to Rodallega but not Hoillet

I think Hoillet’s ceiling is higher than Lennon’s current quality. I don’t think Rodallega’s ceiling is anywhere close to where our Starting XI should be.

If this were true...

We all know it’s a big if… how could Levy say no. This makes my head hurt and makes me want to throw things.

by Brendan Darr on Jan 31, 2012 1:23 AM GMT up reply actions

Well if tribalfootball says so..

Also, this story makes zero sense. They’ll offer him to us for 20 million but only if we do them the favor of taking them right now? Why? Because the idea of keeping him for the rest of the season and then selling him in a bidding war for lots of money to PSG or some other rich team?

by Lennon's Eyebrow on Jan 31, 2012 1:30 AM GMT up reply actions

Hahah, it doesn’t get much more ridicurous than saying they offered him to us.

by johnf34 on Jan 31, 2012 3:12 AM GMT up reply actions

Well, it IS tribalfootball.

I am, how you say, just reporting. :-)

Cannot wait for the game to kickoff…

YAIS. He's quality, BUT...

the last thing we fucking need is another winger. Besides, doesn’t he play on the left, which puts him in direct conflict with Weezus?

Inverted wingers? Nah, how about DOUBLE wingers?!

No, but seriously, from what I’ve seen of Marin he can certainly play on the right and he’d be a big upgrade over Lennon. Throw in the fact he’s 22 and if you can get him for anything under 15 million pounds you have to grab him. He also provides another option for when VDV inevitably picks up an injury.

by ksb9954 on Jan 31, 2012 3:44 AM GMT up reply actions

With his talent...

You can’t NOT start him over Lennon. Hell, Inverted Wingerz, Bale up top in the 4-4-1-1, Full-time 4-6-0… I don’t give a damn.

However, since we all know he isn’t coming. I’m going to go sign him in FIFA and let you know how it goes. (Hint: It won’t go bad)

Is the Wigan game on TV in the US? I don’t see it on FSN or FSN+, but I could be blind.

Lessham. That's the club whose stadium is right next to Craven Cottage,

but actually in the Thames, right? Not next to it.

Next two days are going to be great

Transfer day/Spurs day tomorrow and National Signing Day on Wedensday. It’s like Christmas, but two days in a row.

Dear Daniel Levy,

Please sign Leandro Damiao. Please sign him. It has been so long side we’ve had a new striker. I miss forwards who score goals so much. We have not had one so long. I know he is young, Brazilian and expensive and that can be risky, but his youtube videos are so awesome and I want us to sign him so bad. I will buy his jersey full price from the store the second we sign him. Please, please please sign him.

Going to assume we do nothing.

That way I won’t be disappointed when we don’t sign anyone (or sign a Pienaar, which is basically the same as doing nothing).

Meanwhile I will pray to little baby Weezus for a miracle.

I'm tingling with excitement

My first CFC transfer window extravaganza! I’m ready to be disappointed in the non-signings, and ecstatic in the surprise ready to jump into our laps.
