Tottenham Hotspur Vs. Watford F.C., 2012 FA Cup 4th Round: Lineups and Live Match Thread

Harry hasn't seen a paycheck in 18 months. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)

Ledley King lives in constant fear of injuring his knee. He is also afraid of clowns. What he is not afraid of though, are Championship football sides. Spurs march into Vicarage Road today for the F.A. Cup 4th Round, where they will take on Watford for the right to enter the Round of 16. If the teams draw, a replay will be held at White Hart Lane sometime in the next couple of weeks. As we are playing a not very good Championship squad tonight, we should expect to see some more marginal players in the lineup tonight.

Tottenham Hotspur XI (4-4-2): Cudicini; Walker, Kaboul, Dawson, Rose; Van der Vaart, Parker, Livermore, Modric; Defoe, Adebayor

Subs: Friedel, Bassong, BAE, Niko, Pienaar, Pav, Lennon

Watford F.C. XI (4-4-2): Loach, Hodson, Eustace, Mariappa, Deeney, Doyley, Buaben, Sordell, Murray, Garner, Nosworthy.

Subs:

Watford F.C. vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Game Date/Time: Friday, January 27, 2:45 PM ET, 7:45 PM local

Venue: Vicarage Road, Watford, England

TV: Fox Soccer Plus (USA, English)

Well I guess this answers how badly Harry wants to win the FA Cup

Still, VDV and Defoe? Unless he’s headed for an imminent sale, why isn’t Pav starting?

Well I suppose it means

A) he REALLY wants a tilt at the FA Cup
B) he doesn’t want this to go to a replay
and
C) he has no respect for Wigan.

I understand the first 2, but I wouldn’t take Wigan too lightly after the way they dicked us at home last year.

Maybe it's just a reflection of my priorities.

For me, the FA Cup is a fun diversion. The EPL – & by extension, the CL – is the real deal.

by The Sleeper's Sleep on Jan 27, 2012 7:15 PM GMT up reply actions

For me the team's two priorities have to be

Top 3 finish and FA Cup in that order. I’d prefer to see more guys like Niko and Corluka in there, but at least Bale and BAE are getting a rest.

However, I respect that Harry doesn’t want to leave a replay to chance here. The last thing we need is fixture congestion.

I know some people view the FA cup as a sidenote

But a good cup run could be a lot of fun. It’s not like last year where we had the Champs League to worry about. We’ve got the Prem and the FA cup. I’d love to see us make a run and hopefully have a good game today to wash out the bile from the City match. Plus if Harry is hoping to avoid the chance of a replay that’s good foresight. We still shouldn’t take Watford to lightly and I don’t think this lineup is. Just don’t want to get cocky.

by Jellyfeast on Jan 27, 2012 7:19 PM GMT reply actions

Harry has always maintained that the FA Cup was important to him

and seeing as it is the only competition we are left in that we have a legitimate shot at a trophy, I’m all for going for it.

Besides, it can be a great spring board into next season. City won the cup last year and a lot of people at the time were commenting how it could pay dividends in the following campaign as it starts to build a champion’s mentality.

Only a rumor

but it makes a lot of sense given the deal with under armour and the fact that the Ravens have been publicly talking about wanting to get a game in there after a year off.

A bit worried about it though. ACMilan/Ronaldinho vs. Chelsea drew 70,000, but City/Inter drew only 35,000 and that was after Inter won the treble and the world cup. They’d have to get someone big to play Spurs to fill those seats.

There are a shitload more US Tottenham supporters than City supporters, and Inter have VERY little presence in the states (most Italian immigrants seem to be Juve, AC, or Roma fans. Some Napoli. No one seems to like Inter)

Besides

if Manchester United has a game like this, everyone talks about it being the mark of champions. When we do it its a prelude to our inevitable relegation.
