Tottenham Hotspur midfielder David Bentley is joining West Ham United on a one-year loan. Bentley, 27, joined Tottenham from Blackburn Rovers in 2008 on a record £15m deal. Bentley has failed to establish himself at the club since, causing him to be loaned out in January last year to Birmingham City.
The loan concludes a two-way movement between the two London clubs fighting over the Olympic Stadium, as West Ham midfielder Scott Parker completed a £5 million move to Tottenham earlier today. For Tottenham, the departure of Bentley provides a major relief to the wage bill. Bentley is on a rumoured £50,000-a-week deal, and his departure should also open up space for the Tottenham 25-man roster.
Spurs must hope the former bright prospect can re-find his form at West Ham, as the relegated club push to take make the immediate push for promotion back to The Premiership. Hopefully Bentley is the man to help lift The Hammers.
