Official: Tottenham Hotspur Confirm Signing Of West Ham United Midfielder Scott Parker
Finally! We're done with rumors and he said, she said. Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed via their official club website that they have signed West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker. Parker was the football journalists' players of the year last season and after months of rumors, he's finally joined the club on a permanent transfer with nothing going the other way to West Ham.
The club has unsurprisingly not released the transfer fee paid to obtain Parker, but it's a bit of a surprise that they did not confirm the number of years that Parker has signed for when they announced the signing. The transfer fee has been previously rumored to be in the neighborhood of £6m.
Obviously, Parker gives us a big boost in our midfield for depth and versatility. He's more mobile than Tom Huddlestone, a better defensive player than Luka Modric, a much better passer than Wilson Palacios (who could be sold today), and more tactically astute than Sandro.

Meh.
Nice to have another midfielder in the squad. 6 million isn’t bad, but still think we could have done better.

Good start to the day
I am glad to see Parker join the club. I think he will provide valuable service in the midfield and his professionalism should be a good influence on the youngsters at the club.
very happy with the move
it may not be sexy, but the guy can play.

I think running a 4 4 1 1 is the real. VDV is an attacking mid which leaves any striker Spurs would put up front disconnected from the rest of the outfield. Even two average centerbacks can mark our strikers if they have no options to play off of.

I think 4-4-1-1 could still work, but Redknapp would have to drop one of the wingers and play someone who drifts inside to connect play, like Modric and Kranjcar used to do on the left, perhaps Pienaar would be doing that job already if he wasn’t injured. Or you slap Adebayor upfront alone and he holds up play long enough for VDV and the wingers to join him.

This was the plan all along, got it fixed. Sorry it was broke earlier and the stream of posts was confusing.
Color me very excited. The most underrated part of this is his leadership.
I would say there is some turmoil surrounding the club right now and I hope Scott can help settle things.

I mean, whatever.
Parker is good, no doubt, but big picture, this is a marginal upgrade in midfield, which is our area of least concern. We needed real upgrades up front and in the backline. Our midfield is one of the strongest, if not the very best, in the Premiership, but the backline and the forwards are just above average, not Champions League quality.
