Tottenham Transfer Rumor Tuesday: A Young Player Extravaganza

Photo

This is a sad day friends. This is the final transfer rumor Tuesday post until December. I know it will be very hard for all of you to go on without your weekly dose of transfer rumors, but I'm sure there will be some coverage of these in the Hoddle of Coffee and besides we have lots of other good stuff (like actual news and analysis) to fill up your time as opposed to these ridiculous rumors.

By the time you read this, there will be close to 36 hours remaining in the transfer window and it certainly going to get crazy here until midnight on Wednesday (and maybe even a little after). Unfortunately, the rumors of late have been a little demoralizing. I hate discussing the like of Joe Cole and Craig Bellamy. Fortunately there's quite a few other fun rumors that haven't been getting quite as much press. So, on to the rumors!

Gio! Say It Isn't So: Are you like Brian, Kevin, and myself? Did you want to see Giovanni dos Santos given a fair shake at cracking the lineup for Tottenham Hotspur? Tough luck. It looks like the Mexican international is heading to Wigan Athletic. No word on whether this would be a permanent deal or a loan, but I seem to recall reading somewhere (perhaps Twitter) that it was going to be a free transfer, which seems very unlike Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy. No matter what the fee I don't like this move at all. Let Gio play!

Daniel Levy Wants Young Players: This is, by far, my favorite rumor that I have come across since I've been doing these transfer rumor Tuesday posts. Not only does this rumor include a renewed £18 million bid for Internacional striker Leandro Daimao, but bids for two other players as well. First is Barcelona youngster Marc Bartra, who Spurs are allegedly prepared to bid nearly £7 million for. Bartra is a 20 year-old central defender who has made 5 appearances for Barca and would continue our recent policy of buying La Masia graduates. The other players is Le Havre defensive midfielder Gueida Fofana, valued at £1.2 million. Fofana is only 20 years old, but has already made 64 appearances for Le Havre. He's captained the French youth international sides at various levels. His physical style of play would translate well to the Premier League. I'd take all three of these players.

Star-divide

#WeStillNeedAStriker: Sure, we just signed Emmanuel Adebayor, but that doesn't mean we don't need another one striker. I present you with M'Baye Niang from French Ligue 1 side Caen. Niang is only 16 years old, but in seven appearances for Caen he's scored three goals. Arsenal are also in for the young Frenchman (surprise surprise). The player is valued at €11 million. I can't say I've seen Niang play, but at 16 I think he'd be a good investment, especially if the deal for Leandro doesn't happen.

More Outgoing Players: This website shows has a quick blurb about Roman Pavlyuchenko's potential departure. No quotes, no word on the price, just that Espanyol and Lokomotiv Moscow are the two most interested parties. Kevin has said this before, and I'm inclined to agree, but there will be much more demand for Pavlyuchenko once January comes and the Russian Premier League begins their "championship playoff" in the spring. This article also mentions Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios's potential moves to Stoke City, which I'm pretty sure are going to happen.

Player We're Not Being Linked With, But Should Be: This is my final opportunity to create a transfer rumor. I was going to pick Mario Götze, but Ryan went and ruined that. So now, I turn my attention to Henrique, the Brazilian striker and the golden ball winner at the recent FIFA U-20 World Cup. The 20 year-old currently plays for Sao Paulo and since Spurs finally seem to be interested in buying young players and we have need of a striker this move seems to make sense. Dudu, Henrique's Brazilian teammate at the FIFA tournament, is probably the better player, but he recently completed a move to Dynamo Kiev and would be unavailable to Spurs.

Player We're Actually Going To Sign...This Week: I've gotten to the point where I can accept that the Scott Parker deal is a foregone conclusion. I don't like this deal. I don't think Scott Parker is the type of player Spurs should be buying. That's not to say that Parker isn't any good or that he cannot do a job for the Club, but for someone who will turn 31 years old in October I just can't justify this purchase from a business standpoint. That said, we need a midfielder and if West Ham will let Parker go for £6 million then I suppose I won't totally hate this move.

Striking reinforcements

You have Henrique/Ganso down as a striker.. He’s actually an AM/Trequartista.. similar to VdV, but faster..

Not Paulo Henrique Ganso.

This is Henrique (here’s his wikipedia page). And if you haven’t seen him play here’s some highlights for the U-20 World Cup semi against Mexico in which Henrique scored both goals.

My bad..

I must admit that I kinda skimmed it looking for key words.. seeing Henrique and Paulo, I just took that as the player.. never noyiced the ‘Sao’ before the Paulo..

Poor Gio.

I mean, I know it sucks to be stuck on the bench at Tottenham, but… WIGAN?!

Why not

He doesn’t even get fucking sub appearances here. This is probably my biggest complaint with Harry, it’s become very obvious he just has it out for Gio since he showed up late one Mondays when he first got here.

I’d rather have Cole than Jenas, and I’d rather have Bellamy than Pav, but I wouldn’t pay good money for them, £1 or £2 million max. They’ll do as squad players, but we still need some kids in who we can work on improving; I’d still want Daimao, Bartra and Fofana.

Most recent rumour: Hutton to Villa, to rejoin his old Rangers manager McLeish.

My man crush on a striker has moved from Llorente to Damiao. Please, Daniel bring him in come January!
