Harry Redknapp talks, we laugh and then for some reason there is also a segment of people that takes him seriously. Why exactly anyone takes Harry's talk seriously is beyond me. How many things does he say each year and how many of those things actually come to fruition? He's a talker and he probably enjoys watching people make a big fuss about nothing. I know I would if I were him.
His latest comments can be thrown into the category of "why take what he's saying seriously?" In an interview with Talk Sport he was told that Chelsea had signed Juan Mata and he had this to say about it.
"Chelsea have signed him?" he said. "I didn’t know that. Well, I would think that’s the end of the Modric deal then, surely. I would [think the Mata deal has killed the Modric move]. I had no idea about that.
So because Chelsea have signed Mata they are out of the bidding for Luka, right? Of course not. They play different positions, fill different holes at Stamford Bridge and if anything has been made clear in the part eight months it is that the Blues will spend for the man they want so how does buying Mata end the Modric deal? It doesn't. It's just Harry talking.
Harry being Harry and talking just because he can is never more true than when it comes to transfers. He talks and says "I like (insert player here). He's a good lad." He also likes to go on about how we're close to a deal with a player or he thinks some other player is going elsewhere. That's all really important and telling stuff because he's the one who handles the transfers for the club. Oh wait, he doesn't and he's admitted as much. He just waits on word from Daniel Levy so why exactly are Harry's words taken seriously?
If you stop taking Harry seriously, he is wildly entertaining. Some of what he says is to try and influence something and other times he's just talking because he can. Either way, there is no possible way to tell whether or not what he's say has any merit or is just rubbish. He has the accuracy rate of the Daily Mail so whether it be with this or anything else, have a laugh. Just don't take it seriously.
