Well, that was fast. Just a few hours after we first reported the rumor that Kyle Naughton was on his way to Norwich City, Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed themselves that the fullback has, in fact, been loaned out to Norwich City. Naughton is currently with Spurs during their preseason friendlies in South Africa. I can only assume that he will not be on the team in their last game this weekend.
Naughton spent last season on loan at Leicester City, where he performed well. The Foxes were disappointed that they missed out on the Championship playoffs, but Naughton was named to the PFA Championship team of the season.
Norwich were promoted to the Premier League after a second place finish in the Championship last season, so this is a good next step in the progression of Naughton's career. He's gone from Championship bench player to Championship star to a low Premier League club, a good progression for his still young career.
Though Norwich were very much in need of depth at right back, Naughton will be hard pressed to win a starting spot out of the gate. The Canaries' first choice right back is Scottish international Russell Martin, the club's vice captain. The club has plenty of depth on the other side, at left back, so it will take an injury or serious drop in form from Martin for Naughton to become first choice. Still, his prospects for playing time are decent.
