Tottenham Hotspur faced their Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers here at Molineux on Sunday afternoon in what turned out to be a dramatic game of football. The fact that Tottenham are chasing fourth place versus a Wolves side that are staving off relegation, made for an intriguing match up.

Wolves took the lead through Kevin Doyle in the 20th minute from a Nenad Milijas cross. Doyle rose above his marker and headed in the Milijas cross to put the home side in the lead. However, it was then the turn of Jermain Defoe to draw the visitors level in the 30th minute with a sumptuous shot from the edge of the area. Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal was left helpless. Defoe soon put Tottenham in the lead in the 35th minute with another sublime striker this time on the edge of the penalty area. There was more drama when Alan Hutton pulled on Milijas’ jersey and the referee proceeded to point to the spot. Doyle made no mistake from 12 yards and struck the ball home just before half-time in the 40th minute.

After the break, Roman Pavlyuchenko scored another Tottenham wonder goal in the 48th minute. Pavlyuchenko gave another example of his shooting technique on his weaker foot. Wolves were dumbfounded but not out for the count. Despite overcoming a dubious disallowed goal through Richard Steadman. Steven Fletcher headed his side back into the game in the 87th minute, to rescue a point.

All in all, the neutral was the winner here at Molineux. A point does Tottenham nor Wolves any good, though of course it’s better than no points at all.
