Even with all the amazing things we've done in the Champions League our Prem form has been shockingly awful in the past 3 weeks or so. Taking only 2 points from Blackpool, Wolves and West Ham is simply unacceptable. With Chelsea's win over Man City, we are now 4 points out of 4th (with a game in hand) and to make matters worse Liverpool is actually winning again, and are 4 points behind us (again we have a game in hand).
It's not so much the results we've been having as much as it is the way we've been losing matches. When you boil it down it sounds really stupid- we've not been scoring and we've been allowing too many goals. But it goes much deeper than that.
We've been weak on defense all year and there's likely no fixing that unless the backline become completely healthy and develop some consistency playing with each other and working as a unit. Besides we're Spurs, who cares about how many they score as long as we have more, right?
The scoring is another story. Countless times we've seen Bale, Lennon, VDV, Modric and now even Sandro feed the ball forward only for our strikers to go completely bonkers and somehow screw up the chance. THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT GETTING A NEW STRIKER. Although that would be nice, all the sane Spurs fans know we have to work with what we've got. This is more about the complete lack of finishing ability shown by (in order of increasing buffoonery)Crouch, Pav and that piece of complete SHITE Defoe. What I worry is that if our strikers' drought continues, the midfield will grow discontent and begin trying to do everything themselves or simply get angry and play below their level.
It's clear that Tottenham are greater than sum of their parts and depend a lot on team chemistry. If the strikers continue to play as they do, it will ruin the chemistry and spirit of the team.
In sum, to the strikers I say: PUT THE BALL IN THE NET YOU BLUNDERING DUNDERHEADS
