In light of both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United doing their battling off the pitch in recent weeks, in terms of the Olympic Stadium in East London, it was on the football pitch where both clubs did their battling today. While the result of that battling was fantastic point for the Hammers that may help them out of the relegation zone, Spurs will look at it as a point lost.

Tottenham started the match with gusto, dominating possession and shot attempts. Luka Modric, Rafael Van Der Vaart and a curling Michael Dawson effort all went close in the first half. West Ham had a gilt edged chance through Carlton Cole, but his meek effort was saved by Heurelho Gomes.

In the second half Jermain Defoe’s ‘100 Premier League Goals’ T-Shirt seemed to be more of a burden than a source of inspiration for the diminutive striker. His best efforts were either saved by Rob Green or sailed high and wide of the goal.

Gary O’Neil did the time wasting on West Ham’s behalf preferring to keep the ball in the corner rather than launch the ball into the Tottenham penalty box deep in stoppage time. Tottenham did however have one final shot through Modric which whizzed over the West Ham goal. The game ended honours even thereafter.
