Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumor Tuesday: Dos Santos Out, Bulgarians In

Giovani dos Santos of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates by singing "I'm Shipping Up To Seville". Geography was clearly not his best subject. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)

Sorry for my absence lately. Not that you guys noticed, what with Kevin turning out this awesome piece yesterday and Nick picking up some of the slack as well. But, fear not! I have returned with all sorts of Tottenham Hotspur related transfer rumors for you to enjoy, criticize, or totally dismiss. I don't care which it is.

There's actually quite a few rumors of outgoing players this week, so we'll start there before we move on to the much more exciting "who might Daniel Levy want to buy" rumors. That reminds me, whatever happened to Daniel Levy's imaginary shortlist? Maybe I should get to work on one of those posts. Be on the lookout for that this afternoon. Now, on to the rumors.

Sevilla Still Want Dos Santos: How long has Giovani Dos Santos been rumored to be headed back to Spain? Sevilla were said to be interested in the Mexican playmaker over the summer, but their offer was what Owen Coyle would deem "derisory". Dos Santos has appeared in a handful of games this season for Spurs and has played well at least once (it's probably more than that, I just can't remember). As much as most of us like the potential of Gio it may be time to cut ties. If Sevilla approach Tottenham's asking price I don't see any reason not to let him leave.

Other Outgoing Players: Apparently Liverpool need another midfielder and Tom Huddlestone is their chief target. The article says Tom can't command a regular place at Tottenham. Perhaps it's because he's been injured all season. The price is said to be £7 million. For that I don't have a problem telling Kenny Daglish and Damien Comolli where to go. Vedran Corluka also seems to be on the way out. Of all the rumors I find this the most realistic. Charlie is a good right back and I'm sure he feels hard done by having to fight for his place with Kyle Walker. Roma are rumored to be the club most interested (My favorite part of that link is the picture of Kranjcar that is captioned as being Charlie). A switch to Italian football would be a good move for the Croatian defender.

More Rumors After The Jump

Star-divide

Another Goalkeeper Rumor: What is it with all these Eastern European goalkeepers lately? This morning in the Hoddle it was Zelijko Brkic, previously it had been Samir Handanovic, and now it's Nikolay Mihaylov from FC Twente. In case you don't remember, Mihaylov joined Liverpool back in 2007, but was immediately loaned to Twente before joining the Dutch team permanently in 2010. Mihaylov is 23 and is the first choice for the Bulgarian national team. The last Bulgarian Tottenham purchased worked out pretty well, so maybe this one is worth a shout £5 million.

Speaking of Bulgaria: Would you like to see Dimitar Berbatov back in the white (or lavendar) kit of Tottenham Hotspur? Of course you would. If you wouldn't then we can't be friends anymore. Sir Alex Ferguson, despite the injuries his squad have face, has forgotten about the Continental. Could the Bulgarian wizard bringing his special, indifferent brand of magic back to White Hart Lane? Not for £12 million he won't be. I could handle £8 million, maybe. I just want you back Dimitar.

That Rumor About That Guy That I Don't Want To Address: My motto is to give the people what they want, so even though I don't want to talk about a certain Brazilian who's name sounds like a slang term for excrement I feel as though I must address it. Said player is not leaving the club he is currently contracted to and even if he were he's not coming to Tottenham Hotspur. Even if he did want to come I don't want him. I'm not even going to provide a link for this rubbish. We really just need to flush this rumor (see what I did there?).

GASP! A Young English Defender? WANT!: This week's model is Shrewsbury Town's Connor Goldson. I know literally nothing about this player aside from the fact that his is 19 and English. Give Me Football seems to believe that if Spurs were to sign him he would be immediately loaned back in order to gain more experience. Whatever.

Tottenham to Battle Inter and Manchester United for Young Star: Ok, read that first part again. Now, when you stop laughing, tell me, honestly, who you think would win that battle. The young star the article is talking about is Paulo Henrique Ganso. The kid is amazing, there's no question he belongs at one of the top clubs in Europe and he's going to cost a lot of money. Hence, he won't be playing at Tottenham. It's fun to dream though.

Tottenham to Sign AZ Alkmaar Ace: Alright all you USMNT team fans, settle down. This isn't a Jozy Altidore transfer rumor. Spurs have apparently agreed to a deal for midfielder Rasums Elm for €7.5 million. The 23 year-old Swedish midfielder already has 21 caps for his national team and is well regarded in the Eredivisie for his free kicks and goalscoring. Unfortunately, Elm, allegedly, won't be joining Spurs until summer. I doubt the veracity of this rumor, but this is certainly the kind of deal I could get behind.

Player We're Not Being Linked With But Should Be: You know what I love about football? That there are thousands of players good out there that I've never heard of. Think about it, if there's a good player in baseball or American football you've probably heard of them, but up until a few days ago I had never heard of Walter Montillo. I'm sure Kevin would be disappointed to hear that, but I just don't follow South American football. Montillo is a 27 year old attacking midfielder currently playing for Cruzeiro. Montillo typically plays in the hole behind the striker, but can play out wide on the right as well. Corinthians and Sao Paulo are rumored to be interested in him for €10 million. Montillo scored 23 goals for Cruzeiro in 55 appearances in 2011. This is the kind of player, despite being 27, that I would like Spurs to sign.

Player We're Actually Going to Sign This Week: We can all agree that right midfield is looking increasingly like Tottenham Hotspur's weakest position. This leads me to believe that we will NOT be signing a right midfielder. We will, however, be adding another central midfielder. I'm really leaning to someone who's cover for Luka Modric. I think Queens Park Rangers' Argentine playmaker Alejandro Faurlin makes the most sense. He won't be too cheap and he's not too young, but he'd be a good fit for the squad.

Rasmus Elm was a boss for Sweden in the U-21s a few years ago.

Then again so was Marcus Berg… so, who knows. I have no idea if he’s still good, because I do not follow Hollish football.

Keep Charlie

We don’t have any other cover at right-back. Yes, Kaboul can play there but he is needed in central defense more.

Meh

Dawson should be fit soon, giving us potentially 4 healthy CB’s (Gallas, Dawson, Kaboul, King + Bassong = 1) in Jan, if we don’t buy another one. I would be OK with selling Charlie and getting Kaboul time in at RB to spell Walker now and then, since it would prevent bench-rot when Harry picks Dawson over him.

Potentially 4 healthy

Three of whom are pretty injury susceptible. I’d rather keep Charlie for cover if we could.
