Not long after the day got underway, word leaked out that Newcastle has rejected a £30 million bid from Liverpool for Andy Carroll as the Reds apparently have accepted Chelsea's £50 million bid for Fernando Torres and are looking for a strike partner for Luis Suarez. A few minutes later though, the Guardian and pretty much every other source said that Liverpool did have a bid for Carroll turned down, but it was for £25 million, five million less than originally thought.

So where did the difference of five million pounds come in between the original report and the confirmed reports of the accurate figure? The best guess is the original report came from Newcastle and not just for fun. The Magpies know that they have a wanted man in Carroll and someone wanted by clubs who have a lot of money to spend all of a sudden, namely Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

What Newcastle really did in leaking Liverpool's bid at £30 million is set a price for him. Whether it be Spurs or the Reds, if a club comes in with a bid of £30 million, you can bet Newcastle says yes and Carroll is off. Now, £30 million for Carroll is ridiculous, but Liverpool has already gone as high as £25 million so who says they won't go higher and does anyone doubt Spurs' ability to stupidly spend big on someone worth half what they're paying?
